Saturday, July 13, 2024, Most Rev. Jerome Feudjio, Bishop of St Thomas in the Virgin Islands, administered the sacrament of Confirmation to five (5) Christians of Our Lady of Mt Carmel Parish in St John’s Island. He also installed one Christian to the ministry of Lector.
These ceremonies took place during a Eucharistic celebration in the Parish Church that evening of Saturday July 13. It was a colorful event, with a highly animated choir that led the singing.
Typical to the Catholic Rite of Confirmation, the candidates were called and presented. Then after the prayer over them, they took turns to receive the anointing with Holy Chrism. “Be sealed with the gift of the Holy Spirit” were the words that accompanied the anointing.
Following the administration of the Sacrament was the installation of the Lector. The Bishop handed over to him the Bible, commissioning him to read, meditate upon, and teach the faithful.
The celebration was spiced by the youth band that did a moving presentation before the final blessing. This was followed by an exchange of gifts, on the one hand from the Parish community to the Bishop, and on the other hand from the Bishop to the new-confirmed.
The light refreshment after the Eucharistic celebration closed the occasion.
